Adoption in India
Adoption in India is a complex and sensitive topic embedded with cultural, societal, and legal nuances, leading to its taboo status in many communities.
This Research project is about understanding the Ecosystem of Adoption in India from the System Design approach, where we study the detailed understanding of social stigma, taboo, barriers for both adoptive parents and children and the current adoption system. We also learn how one small intervention in one sector can impact other sectors and stakeholders in the system.
I was the UX Researcher and Product designer in the team who developed the final cards game "Savali". I lead brainstorming sessions, conducted user interviews, visited sites, carried out testing and prototyping, as well as documenting the process and final prototype.

Introduction
Our team focused on the system design module, aiming to unravel misconceptions and taboos surrounding adoption. Through user research, visits, and interviews, we identified root causes and developed design interventions. We created "Savali," a simple card game to raise awareness about adoption processes under CARA (Central Adoption Resource Authority), aiming to reduce misconceptions and promote understanding.
Teams
Faculty : Balaji Ranjan (HOD), Nijoo Dubey
Product Designer : Omkar Srivardhankar
User Researcher : Manish Jadhav
UI/UX Designer : Laitya Krishnan
Design Process
We tried to follow definite process, however, we iterated the process to fit the Research process in order to understand the topic in-depth and clearly.
Statistics & Facts
Secondary Research
Secondary research and statistics provide valuable insights and quantitative data, enriching our understanding and supporting evidence-based decision-making.
Initial Research
Affinity Mapping - Mind Mapping - Causal Loop diagram
In the context of project development, the initial research phase is crucial for creating meaningful Affinity Maps, Mind Maps, and Causal Loop Diagrams. It forms the foundation by providing valuable data and insights, guiding the organization and visualization of complex relationships, patterns, and causal loops essential for informed decision-making and effective problem-solving strategies.
Stakeholder Mapping
Understanding Stakeholders and painpoint mapping
Stakeholder mapping involves identifying and categorizing stakeholders based on their level of interest and influence in a project or organization, which then allows for prioritization of engagement efforts and resource allocation to ensure successful project outcomes aligned with stakeholder expectations.
Analysis and Opportunity Mapping
The analysis of primary research involves gathering firsthand data directly from sources such as surveys, interviews, and observations, providing detailed and specific insights into consumer behavior, preferences, and needs. On the other hand, secondary research involves examining existing data, market reports, and studies conducted by others, offering broader industry trends and context. Combining both types of research allows businesses to generate comprehensive insights, identify gaps or emerging patterns, and convert these insights into opportunities for product innovation, market positioning, and strategic decision-making.
Defining Painpoint
Understanding user pain points involves empathizing to identify challenges, frustrations, and unmet needs, leading to a concise design brief outlining the problem, objectives, audience, constraints, and desired outcomes for effective design solutions.
Persona Making
Building personas in design research involves gathering and analyzing data to create fictional but representative profiles of target users, considering their demographics, behaviors, needs, and motivations. This process helps designers develop empathy, make informed design decisions, and create solutions tailored to user preferences and goals.
Journey Mapping and How Might We
Utilize the user journey mapping process to identify pain points and moments of frustration throughout the user experience, then convert these insights into "How might we" (HMW) questions to spur creative problem-solving and innovation in design solutions.
Design Brief
Design an activity driven product for potential parents to spread awareness about the adoption process followed by CARA in INDIA.
